Description
-SALE PENDING-Wanting to compete with brand rival Pontiac and their newly introduced GTO, in 1964 Oldsmobile introduced the 442 option for the Cutlass. The name was derived from the car being equipped with a 4-barrel carburetor, 4-speed transmission and dual exhaust. Although in later years the car would be offered with an automatic transmission option, it retained its status as the top-of-the-line performance model. As the muscle car wars began to heat up, Oldsmobile made the 442 a stand-alone model instead of just an option package to focus on increasing the performance of the car even more. By 1970, they had reached the pinnacle, offering a standard 455 V8 engine rated at 365hp with a host of go-fast options available. This particular 442 is a three-owner car; the most recent owner acquiring it in 1975. The car was cherished by the family and eventually retired from daily driving duties. At that point, a complete nut-and-bolt restoration was commissioned to restore the car to exact factory specifications. It was refinished in the original shade of Astro Blue Metallic, a correct blue convertible top was installed and matching blue interior complete with bucket seats was reupholstered. During the restoration process, the body was taken off the frame and down to bare metal, the original matching-numbers engine and transmission were rebuilt, and every detail was addressed. Once the highest-quality restoration was completed, it won First Place at the 2011 Oldsmobile Club of America Nationals and took Best in Class at the 2012 Oldsmobile Club Pacific Regionals. From the factory, the car came well-equipped with options like air conditioning, performance 3:23 posi-traction axle, power disc brakes, automatic transmission, deluxe steering wheel and more, all documented on two original Build Sheets. Additionally, the car comes with a binder of restoration photos, receipts, original Protect-O-Plate and various other paperwork from the long-term ownership.Backed up by an incredible amount of documentation, this unique triple-blue convertible is an excellent example of the peak of Oldsmobile muscle.
