Description
Having undergone a dramatic redesign, the Chevelle rolled into 1968 with a longer wheelbase, more aggressively styling and a whole new attitude. The Super Sport became a series on its own, with the designation of SS 396 and available in the sport coupe, convertible and El Camino bodies. Engine options remained the same as the previous year, with three versions of the 396-325hp, 350hp and 375hp. All SS 396 cars came standard with a bench seat, standard gauges and 3-speed automatic transmission. Buyers had the option to upgrade to bucket seats, Rally gauges and a 4-speed manual if they chose. This 396 SS was restored with the goal in mind of driving it like Chevrolet originally intended. It was repainted in the original shade of Seafrost Green, using as many original and NOS parts as possible. Under the hood sits the original 396/350hp big-block V8 backed by an automatic transmission. It retains all of its original comfort options, including power steering, brakes and air conditioning, all of which are in good working order. The entire restoration of the car is well-documented with lots of photos showing the different stages of progress. The documentation continues into ownership paperwork dating back to the second owner, who purchased the car back in 1969. Additionally, it features copies of the original Window Sticker and an NCRS shipping report. Since completion, the car has won numerous shows receiving many plaques and trophies, all of which go with the car. This Chevelle SS 396 is a turn-key muscle car ready for the street.
