Description
Often referred to as simply a 'bus,' Volkswagen's iconic forward-control van was initially introduced in 1950. It was available in a variety of configurations, ranging from a bare-bones panel van for commercial use to a full-on camper complete with a pop-top roof, but the most popular and desirable of all is the Deluxe Microbus, also known as the Samba. It was considered the most luxurious version, equipped with large a fabric sunroof, two-tone paint, decorative trim and two pivoting 'barn' doors instead of one sliding door. Most notably, they featured 8 additional panoramic windows in the roof, earning the nickname of a '21-window' in reference to the total number of windows.Born from the factory as a 21-window Deluxe Microbus, this particular example was imported originally to California. In 2012 it underwent a full restoration, refinished to the factory color combination of Sealing Wax Red and white with a gray interior. It retains all the original Sekruit glass, with the exception of the two front windows, and all seals were replaced. At the time of restoration, more power was added in the form of a 2110cc engine and Freeway Flyer transaxle to allow this bus to cruise in modern traffic with ease. The walk-through interior is a reproduction, complete with rear seatbelts and correct grab handles. It has brand-new whitewall tires and also comes with factory accessories like the original tool roll and awning kit.
